On 25 October 2016, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr Dainius Žalimas has been awarded the "Order of Honour" of the Republic of Moldova, conferred by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova no. 2391-VII of 21 October 2016. The state distinction has been awarded for his substantial contribution to the development of inter-departmental cooperation in the field of constitutional law between the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Moldova.

On the occasion of the Constitution Day of the Republic of Lithuania and in the context of the participation of the delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova (CCM), headed by President Alexandru Tănase, at the Official Ceremony dedicated to the Constitution Day, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania, was awarded the "Order of Honour" of the Republic of Moldova.

The high distinction awarded in a solemn atmosphere by the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Lithuania and the President of CCM at a ceremony held on 25 October 2016 in Vilnius.

Mr Dainius Žalimas made a special contribution to the deepening of the friendly and cooperation relationships between Moldova and Lithuania, and provided his constant support in the process of European integration and the strengthening of democratic values.

In his capacity as President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania, he had a decisive role in establishing the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions (BBCJ). He also supported the Batumi Process, which condemns the use of constitutional courts as instruments for legitimizing the infringement of international law by occupying territories of other states.

Thanks to the support of the President of the Lithuanian CC, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova became the beneficiary and is successfully implementing the EU-funded project "Support to the Constitutional Court of Moldova."

PhD in Law and professor, Mr Dainius Žalimas visited several times the Republic of Moldova, where he held lectures and presentations on international and constitutional law, including in his capacity of international scholar in the Republic of Moldova (under the Open Society Foundations Higher Education Support Program of academic fellowships).
