The President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania

On 22 July 2015, Mr Alexandru Tănase, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova met with Mr. Dainius Žalimas, President of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania. The meeting took place in the premises of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, where the two presidents discussed the current issues of constitutional justice and prospects for cooperation.

In recent years, cooperation between the two courts became very active. The exchange of experience, best practices and knowledge between judges and staff of the institutions are particularly important for the aspiration of the Republic of Moldova to create a European state and to implement major reforms in the judiciary sector.

This visit took place in the context of the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the International Legal Forum Lithuania - Moldova - Ukraine, a part of which were also representatives of institutions of the judiciary sector, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations, the main theme of the forum being the judicial reform.

At the meeting were discussed issues related to the independence justice, the implementation of complex legal reforms aimed at increasing the independence of the judiciary, rule of law and protection of human rights.

The participation of the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Moldova was possible due to financial support of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova and the Constitutional Court of Lithuania.
