2017 Judges of the Constitutional Court of Moldova Attended the 25th Anniversary of the Constitutional Court of RomaniaOn 24 to 25 May 2017, the judges of the Constitutional Court of Moldova (CCM) led by the President of CCM – Mr Tudor Panțîru, attended the International Conference held in Bucharest ”A quarter of century of constitutionalism,” dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR). The event brought together presidents, judges of constitutional courts and other courts and representatives of international bodies from Europe, Asia and the United States of America, as well as of the European Court of Human Rights, Court of Justice of the European Union and of the Venice Commission. In his opening speech, the President of CCR, Professor Valer Dorneanu, Ph.D. greeted the participants of the Conference and stated that CCR is the final referee of disputes on the interpretation of the Constitution and that the competence of the Court as the sole authority of constitutional jurisdiction is the guarantor of the supremacy of the Constitution: ”No authority may challenge this competence. It is and shall remain independent from any public authority and it shall obey only the Constitution and the Law on its functionality.” The presentations made at the Conference included such topics as the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the European Union and that of the Constitutional Court; the dialogue of judges in an Europe in crises; the Magna Carta and the birth of rule of law; as well as the experience of other constitutional courts represented within the event. |
