The congratulation on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova was received from the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania

Dear Mr. President,

Dear Justices and colleagues,

On 29 July Moldova celebrates the 21^st anniversary of the Constitution.

The current Constitution of Moldova was adopted on July 29 in 1994 and after two months it came into force. This Constitution defined Moldova as a sovereign, independent, unitary republic. It set the framework for the government of Moldova and established an independent Constitutional Court, which is the guarantee of the supremacy of the Constitution and plays an essential role in strengthening Moldovan democracy, protecting fundamental rights and freedoms of its citizens.

I sincerely believe, that similar serious historical challenges we faced, revealed the true value of freedom and democracy. I recall that Moldova was the first country to recognize the restored independence of Lithuania on 31 May 1990. We firmly support the choice that your country has made to build a free and democratic European state. Today in the face of new threats to the security and values of our countries, we stand together. I am very proud that relations between our nations are becoming stronger and that cooperation between our Courts is especially friendly and fruitful.

Dear President, dear colleagues,

On behalf of justices of Lithuanian Constitutional Court and myself, I would like to extend most cordial congratulations on the occasion of Moldova‘s Constitution Day. I wish you and the people of Moldova continued well-being and prosperity, courage and strength in protecting constitutional values, including European choice as a part of your constitutional identity. I would like to finish my letter with the phrase: Felicitări pentru Ziua Constituției!
