On Friday, 16 March 2018, the new judge of the Constitutional Court Mr Mihai Poalelungi has taken the oath before the Parliament and the members of the Superior Council of Magistracy, based on the provisions of Article 12 of the Law on the Constitutional Court no.317-XIII of 13.12.1994. According to the law, starting from this moment the judge officially takes the office.
At the plenary sitting of the Constitutional Court that took place at the same date, Mr Mihai Poalelungi was elected as President of the Constitutional Court of Moldova for a three-year term.
Pursuant to the law, the President of the Court is elected by secret ballot.
Mr Mihai Poalelungi was appointed as judge of the Constitutional Court by the Superior Council of Magistracy on 6 March 2018, following the resignation for personal reasons of the constitutional judge Mr Tudor Panțîru. Prior to the appointment to the position of CCM judge, Mr Mihai Poalelungi activated in the judicial system of the Republic of Moldova starting with the year 1988. During the period 1 May 2008 - 1 May 2012 he served as judge of the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of the Republic of Moldova. Starting with 1 May 2012 until the appointment as constitutional judge Mr Mihai Poalelungi held the position of judge and President of the Supreme Court of Justice.
